New Grad RN Resume Examples

As a newly graduated Registered Nurse, writing a resume can be a daunting task, especially if you’re applying for your first positions.

Many newly qualified nurses and nursing students often worry about their lack of experience and skills to stand out from other candidates and impress potential employers.

But remember, you have got experience — think about all you’ve learnt throughout your education, the knowledge gained during your variety of placements, the coaching and support you received from your colleagues and mentors, and the skills, competencies, and lessons learnt first-hand whilst caring for your patients.

What’s more, all this knowledge is fresh in your mind and ready to be put into practice.

When creating your new grad RN resume:

  1. Start with a strong objective or summary statement that highlights your qualifications and goals as a new RN.
  2. List your education and clinical experiences in reverse chronological order. Include any relevant coursework, clinical rotations, or externships.
  3. Focus on your clinical skills and how you have applied them in a clinical setting. This could include hands-on experience with patient care, administering medication, managing IVs, and working with interdisciplinary teams.
  4. Emphasize any leadership roles or responsibilities you have held, such as charge nurse or preceptor, and how you have demonstrated strong communication and critical thinking skills.
  5. Include any relevant certifications, such as BLS, ACLS, or PALS, as well as any memberships in professional organizations.
  6. Use specific and measurable achievements to showcase your abilities, such as improving patient satisfaction scores or reducing medication errors.
  7. Use keywords and phrases from the job description to tailor your resume to the specific position and highlight your relevant experience.
  8. Keep your resume concise and well-organized, using bullet points to highlight key information and make it easy to scan.
  9. Use a professional and clean format, choosing a font that is easy to read and a layout that is visually appealing.
  10. Proofread your resume carefully to ensure that it is free of errors and typos.
